Admission Process

1. Application for admission

Anyone wishing to obtain information about our residential community center (CRC) and/or our program may submit a request for information verbally or by mail. We will then provide them with the requested information. Whenever possible, we will meet with the person to provide them with the information they are seeking in person.

An application for admission to our resource may be made by any person who is interested and eligible to benefit from the services we offer. Upon receipt of an application for admission and after sending an acknowledgment of receipt, the assistant director or his or her delegate will begin reviewing the application and a response will be sent as soon as possible.

Please note that our usual admission procedure may be adjusted to certain circumstances or situations. For example, some cases may be accepted on the basis of a file review without a prior evaluation stay. In such circumstances, the first week of residence serves as an evaluation stay, at the end of which the candidate is accepted or rejected.

When possible, we will meet with the applicant to give them the opportunity to discuss with a CRC representative the reasons or grounds for their admission or refusal.

2. Selection criteria

All individuals who wish to stay at our CRC must demonstrate that they are willing to take all necessary steps toward their social reintegration. The corporation’s services are intended for individuals who meet the following criteria:

a) An adult inmate serving a prison sentence, on probation with supervision, on parole, on conditional release, on temporary leave, on day parole, on statutory release, on statutory release with house arrest, under a long-term supervision order, or in temporary custody.

b) An individual who is looking for ways to get out of their situation, who wants to help themselves and who accepts help.

c) An individual who acknowledges their offense and has begun to develop awareness.

d) An individual who needs guidance and who accepts guidance from CRC workers.

e) An individual who wants to actively participate in the integrated intervention program.

f) An individual who wants to integrate or reintegrate into the formal job market.

g) An individual who wants to return to school in order to facilitate their return to the job market.

h) An individual who is able and willing to live in a community and who accepts and respects the rules of the residence.

i) An individual who considers their admission and stay at the residence to be a privilege.

It is important to note that the CRC cannot accept everyone who wishes to stay at the residence. In order to fulfill our mission and out of respect for our vocation, we must not only take into account the information provided by the appropriate authorities, but also consider whether we can resolve certain specific issues.

Exclusion criteria

  • Unresolved sexual issues that pose an undue risk to the community.
  • Significant physical disability.
  • Health problems requiring specialized and/or constant intervention.
  • Intellectual disability and psychiatric cases.

Our analysis procedure usually consists of four steps:

1- Analysis of the person’s background by consulting their institutional file.

2- Assessment of the person’s motivation and potential through one or more meetings.

3- Gathering information deemed essential and relevant (consultations with case managers, peace officers, probation officers, external resources, community workers, etc.).

4- Deciding whether to accept or reject the candidate.

Please note that our usual admission procedure may be adjusted to certain circumstances or situations. For example, some cases may be accepted based on an analysis of the file without a prior assessment stay. In such circumstances, the first week of residence serves as an assessment stay, at the end of which the candidate is accepted or rejected.

Whenever possible, we will meet with the applicant to give them the opportunity to discuss with a CRC representative the reasons or grounds for their admission or rejection.
